On my short list…

December 12, 2008

of favorite cocktails: The Flirtini.  I had too many a few while away on business last month, and fell in LURVE!  While I am normally a bourbon lady, occasionally I cater to my feminine side and enjoy a girly drink in a fancy martini glass.  Something about sipping off that smooth, angled glass that makes a lady feel special.  Below is a recipe I tried when I was craving one a few weeks ago.

1.5 oz Pomegrante Vodka

4 ozs. chilled Champagne (not the Dom for this!  Pull out a Korbel…)

Twist of Lemon

Shake the Vodka & Bubbly in a iced shaker and shake until well-chilled.  Pour into chilled martini glass and garnish with lemon.  Sip & enjoy!

For this weekend: The Candy Cane Martini.

Since we are putting up our holiday tree this weekend, a process that is ALWAYS painful and frequently carries our marriage dangerously close to divorce, I am going to experiment with holiday themed martinis.  I have found one off of martinidiva.com (also where I had found the Flirtini recipe above.)  Below is the recipe, I’ll let you know how it turns out.

1.5 ozs. vodka

.5 oz Peppermint Schnapps

Mini Candy Canes

Crush the candy canes in a pastic bag with the closest blunt object.  Rim your martooni glasses with some schnapps and dip in the crushed candy canes.  Place the remaining ingredients in the shakers and shake until well chilled.  Pour for a festive holiday survival cocktail!

Happy Holidays!

OMFG..Finally

December 10, 2008

Well, my fair Internet. It certainly has been awhile. I’ve been feeling a bit uninspired..and busy as hell. Tonight, however, my world has been spun on it’s ass and so, I must tell my 3 readers all about it.

Tonight…I had Thai food. Now, I know what you must be thinking: “Average Mom, you have had Thai food before,” and you would be right. I have had Thai food before, frequently in college with my bestest roommate ever and bills that would reach the highest level of the atmosphere BUT tonight, TONIGHT!! I had NEK Thai food. For those of you don’t know, the most ethnic food you can procurewhere I live is all you can eat “Chinese” buffet. Bad Chinese buffet, where all they serve for wine is Sutter Home but tonight, TONIGHT! I tried the new Thai food restaurant called “Thai Tanic.” I know, I know, awful cheesy name but the food was good, and not just good-for-the-middle-of-nowhere-good….no, no…good for ANYWHERE good. Albeit, it is not AS good as that awesome Thai place that GastroGirl and I would blow our months grocery money on but still, it was very yummy.

um, ...yeah

I had the Red Curry Seafood, which was an awesome blend of Shrimp, Scallops & Calamari sauteed with green bell peppers, bamboo shoots, string beans, green peas & carrots with basil in an a coconut curry sauce. It was DELICIOUS! the sauce was more of a soup and the Jasmine rice sucked it up like a freshman sucking up their first scorpion bowl. It was just spicy enough, with a little sweet…I want more just thinking about it.

The Hubby had Beef Pad Prik King, beef stir fried with string beans, carrots, and fresh ginger in a spicy coconut sauce. It was pretty good compared to other thai I’ve had but not great, however on the NEK scale, it is a total 8, but I probably won’t order it again.

Things I am looking forward to ordering, oh, …..tomorrow! are:
1. basil duck  – um, yeah…duck.  The only duck you can find up here is the one that Billy Bob shot last Sunday.
2. the seafood salad with ginger & cilantro in spicy & sour lime sauce
3. the lemongrass seafood…”you had me at lemongrass”
plus, I would like to try the Tom Yum, not because I particularly like Tom Yum, but because that’s what we would always start our Thai gluttonies with back in Undergrad….ahhh…
