A weekend of domestication…
October 6, 2008The past month of weekends has been a whirlwind of “enjoyment” on friday nights with our awesome friends, neighbors & coworkers that inevitably leads to me being barely functional, bleary eyed and unbathed at Josie’s dance classes the following morning (8 am!!! WTF!) and then running around like crazy person cleaning and entertaining for the remainder of the weekend until I have to drag my exhuasted butt out of bed on Monday morning and try to teach. Your average mom chilled out a little this weekend, and acted her age, rather then reliving her college days. Friday still involved cocktails and dancing but the conclusion to the party was on the same day that it started.
The rest of my weekend was amazing. Did I meet the Pope? No. Did I win a free trip to the Napa Valley? No. Did I meet Anthony Bourdain and he swept me away to Barcelone to wine and dine me? Well, in my dreams yes, but in reality….no. What I did do was clean my carpets. Now, while this might seem mundane to those of you with out a mental illness, for those of us who are mental thrive on seeing dirt disappear; cleaning the carpets is like Disney World, Wally World and Hollywood Boulevard wrapped up in a burrito and deep fried. Aka: heaven. I wish I had taken a before picture of my floors but you will have to take my word for it: they. were. awful. Two years of a hairy mop of a dog and potty training (for the 3 yr. old, not the dog) has taken it’s toll but now, my carpets are GLEAMING! AND SHINY! AND WONDERFUL!! (double exclamation points!) Here’s a pic:
Let me just say that before I cleaned the carpets, they were…well, more brown. It was gross. And the area around the table was noticeably a different color then under the table. Not a different hue of cream, nay. A completely. different. color. Gag.
We also truly domesticated ourselves today and cooked an amazing feast. My hubby made a roast:

While I used up the remainder of our apple picking apples to make my very first apple pie (sans grandparents helping) and apple crisp. The crisp sucked, as the apples turned to mush, so it was more like the school lunch apple crisp, which is applesauce with topping sprinkled over it. The pie, however, was kick-ass, if I do say so myself.
And the final product:
Who’s Yo Mama?!?!?!
